Your brake system is comprised of a long list of parts, and all of them are under a great deal of stress. The task of stopping a car, truck, or SUV which weighs thousands of pounds is certainly no easy one. Learn how to spot a brake issue, and know what to do about it, with Mt. Healthy Auto Repair in Cincinnati.

With a complete front brake job you will get new rotors or your old rotors will be machined, new calipers, and new brake pads. If you have serviceable wheel bearings you get your wheel bearings cleaned, lubricated and new grease seals. Brake hoses will get a visual inspection for cracks or bulges. Usually the hoses are ok if they pass a visual inspection but there are cases where they can cause brake pulling issues.

We do asses the condition of your brakes and while we do recommend a complete brake job, sometimes there are corners that can be cut . This varies based on the evenness of brake pad wear.

Sometimes you can get by with just brake pads. If your brake pads are worn even ,you have no brake pulsation along with rotors that measure good without rust pitting, and no visible leaks you can get away with just brake pads. Either way you decide and as stated before in our( about us) tab comment we treat your car as if it was our own. If your just getting pads we lubricate everything as it should be done!

Rear drum brakes are a little different and some cars and trucks still have them. Usually they don't cost as much even though they look a lot more difficult . Usually the brake drums have plenty of metal to be machined. Everything else pretty much still applies as it is just another hydraulic system.

Brake problems come in a variety of forms. Worn brake pads cause squeaking or grinding noises, especially when the brakes are applied, but sometimes constantly. Typically, the sound will vary with the speed of your car, and braking will alter the noise you hear.

Bad brakes affect performance too. If you feel like you have to hit the pedal harder than normal to stop your vehicle, the brakes feel weak, or your car pulls to one side whenever you depress the pedal, you likely have a malfunctioning master cylinder, sticking brake caliper, or collapsed hoses. Symptoms may be erratic, sometimes only popping up occasionally, but should not be ignored.

Warped or worn rotors damaged by high heat or worn brake pads will cause your car to pulse or vibrate whenever you hit the brakes. This can be damaging to other components, decrease brake performance, and is generally annoying.

If you are having brake problems, get them fixed. Faulty brake equipment is irritating, dangerous, and stressful, and will only worsen if neglected. If you are experiencing any of the above problems, or your vehicle needs any other repair or maintenance, don’t hesitate to call or come by Mt. Healthy Auto Repair .
